No Good News is in my opinion the best young pop punk band on Long Island. They just put up their debut full length “In Constant Comparison” for free download on their band camp. If you were smart you would go download that shit.
2 years ago our brother Mitch was diagnosed with cancer. Today that battle has unfortunately come to an end. We have re-released our spit with Bellwether and all donations will be given to Mitch’s family to pay for funeral costs.
Please donate what you can
For those of you who don’t know we (No Good News) are currently on tour with State Lines. We’re all traveling in the same van and we’ve been touring for the last 3 1/2 weeks and we have 4 days left. Yesterday while driving from Chicago to Michigan it started pouring rain. All of a sudden our radio turned off by itself. Not a big deal, we can survive without a radio. About 30 seconds later our windshield wipers stopped working and then the engine stopped responding to the gas pedal all together.
We pulled over onto the side of the highway assuming that our battery died and that we just needed somebody to jump it for us. We called AAA but they wouldn’t help us because of the model of vehicle that we are touring in (a mini school bus). So we ripped open a cardboard Froot Loops box and made a sign to put on the back of the bus in hopes that somebody would pull over to help us out. About an hour passed and nobody had stopped. During that hour we called a tow truck to come and tow us to the nearest service station which was 10 miles away and closed. But all we could do was sleep at the service station and wait until the morning when they would be open. While waiting for the tow truck a dark green jeep pulled onto the shoulder in front of us. A man named Craig Fox got out to help jump out battery. Within 5 minutes the bus was running again. Before he left, Craig gave me his phone number and said to let him know if their was any trouble. We gave him a CD and shirt and he was on his way.
10 minutes later the bus was dead again which means that it wasn’t the battery. It turns out that our alternator had died. An alternator is pretty much what keeps the battery charged while the engine is running. So I texted Craig to let him know what had happened and that a tow truck was coming to take us to a shop. His response was something along the lines of “Fuck that, have them tow it to my house and I’ll fix it for free.” Just a reminder that this man is a total stranger who we had met less than an hour ago.
When the tow truck arrived we found that they could only fit one of us in the truck with them. As if he hasn’t done enough for us already, Craig drove the 20 miles from his home to pick the remaining 7 of us up. We got to his house at 8:30 PM and then I rode with him to the Auto Repair shop that closed at 9 to buy a replacement alternator.
We get back to Craig’s house and he gave us tents and sleeping bags to set up in his backyard (he had a girlfriend with 2 kids who were pretty confused about who we were so we couldn’t blame them for not wanting 8 strangers inside of their home). Craig told us that he had to leave for a couple minutes and when he returned he brought us stacks of firewood from his brothers house to help us make a fire in the backyard.
So he began working on the van while Tom and I chopped up firewood. Not only did he replace our alternator but he also repaired a broken nut that was holding our oil pipe in place. Craig stayed up until about midnight until the van was fully functioning before telling us that he was heading to bed because he had to be up for work at 4 AM. We spent the night making s’mores and camping out, turning what could have been one of the worst situations into one of the best nights that we’ve had. Without amazing people like Craig we wouldn’t be on our way to play in Ohio tonight and we could never thank him enough for all of his help.
We’ll be following Warped Tour from July 7th-14th selling CD’s and playing acoustic in the parking lot for anyone who is interested! You scan tweet at us (@NoGoodNews) if you want to find out where and when this stuff will be happening each day. Hope to see some new and old faces while we’re there! http://nogoodnews.bandcamp.com/album/in-constant-comparison
